Veronica Campbell-Brown Defends her Olympic Title

August 21, 2008

Veronica Campbell-Brown ran an excellent curve on her way to winning the 200m sprint title in the 2008 Beijing Olympic games and defending her title from four years ago in Athens. Veronica’s superb performance completes Jamaica’s sweep of the sprint events in Beijing in both the male and female events as Jamaica won half of the medals available in the individual sprint events. Veronica won in 21.74 seconds - the fastest she has ever run the event.

Fellow Jamaican Kerron Stewart added to her silver medal in the 100m with a bronze in the 200m narrowly edging out Muna Lee of the United States. Last year’s world champion Alison Felix also of the United States was second.

Again, amidst the noise and dsitraction of the Americans, Jamaica shines! Let it be known we are here and we are here to stay! Congrats Veronica and Kerron! Bolt, your name says it all. Walker, as an ardent Jamaican, I now change your name from Walker, to Sprinter…lol. To all of our athletes at Beijing 2008, medal or no medals, you have done well to represent Jamaica in fine style ! Asaffa, don’t worry king, it ain’t over yet. Keep shinning. Lets now live through our anthem and recognise that “The Eternal Father has blessed our land.” May we pause long enough to give Him thanks.
