Police Stations to be improved

The Government’s capacity to maintain law and order in the country will be further enhanced this year, with the continued construction and improvement of police stations and other buildings. As outlined in the 2011/2012 Estimates of Expenditure now before the House of Representatives, $600 million of a $750 million allocation will be spent this year on the construction and rehabilitation of select police stations islandwide.

Of the $600 million, $100 million will be used for the completion of refurbishing works on the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s (JCF) staff training college in Twickenham Park, St. Catherine.

The rest of the overall allocation will facilitate the provision of technical consultancy services and procurement of Close Circuit Television (CCTV) Surveillance Systems for Montego Bay, May Pen, Half-Way-Tree and New Kingston, as well as cover maintenance costs for sites that are currently operational.

Meanwhile, another $3 million has been set aside in the Estimates to facilitate repairs and maintenance works at the JCF’s staff college and seminar centre.
