National Online Album Launched

August 30, 2008

A National Online Album titled ‘Picture Dis’ which featured digital images of famous people, important places, significant events and more has been launched by the National Library of Jamaica. The online album features images of Jamaica from as early as the 1800s.

King Street Kingston in the early 1900s

The images were made available to the public in a effort to allow Jamaicans to learn more about our country’s rich history and as a way to remember the great Jamaicans who have helped to build Jamaica as well as too see how Jamaica has transformed over the past century.

The project is in keeping with the National Library’s aim to preserve and facilitate access to Jamaica’s cultural heritage, thereby keeping it relevant to current and future generations. The online album will be expanded over time to include even more images that offer a peak into Jamaica’s past.
