Jamaica Shines at World Juniors

The 12th IAAF World Junior Championships held in Bydgoszcz, Poland from July 8th to 13th 2008 was a successful one for Jamaica’s young athletes. Jamaica walked away with 6 medals; 1 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze. The only gold came from Dexter Lee who did well to show up Jamaica’s high caliber in the men’s 100 metre sprint winning the event in 10.45 seconds.

Medal Tally

Dexter Lee – 100 Metres for men – GOLD
Shermaine Williams – 100 Metres Hurdles for women – SILVER
Nickel Ashmeade - 200 Metres for men – SILVER
Junior 4×100 Metres Relay for men – SILVER
Junior 4×100 Metres Relay for women – SILVER
Keiron Stewart 110 Metre Hurdles for men – BRONZE

Although less than the 8 medals won at the previous World Junior Campionships in Beijing Jamaica did well and finished 9th in the medal table and 8th place in the placing table. The 2010 World Junior Championships in Athletics will be held in Moncton, Canada in July 2010.

    Why did we not hear more about the Jamaican tack stars. Is it because the Americans did not win. sour grapes.
