HELP Jamaica 2010 Charity Calendar

HELP Jamaica is a charity organization serving Jamaica that is based in Germany. It’s main goals according to it’s website is to raise funds in order to support and establish library- and education projects in Jamaica, they aim to build libraries and education projects in deprived Jamaican communities and aspire to provide free education – especially for children and youths who otherwise don’t have access to books and computers and do not have the means to provide adequately for their education.

HELP Jamaica which stands for Help Establish Library Projects in Jamaica has created a limited quantity 2010 calendar which will be sold for a small fee with the proceeds going to the projects the organization supports.

World Champs Domination for Jamaica

Jamaica enjoyed it’s best ever showing at the IAAF World Championships of Athletics with a record setting 13 medals in the German capital of Berlin. Usain Bolt followed up his amazing performance at the Olympic Games in Beijing last year with record setting runs ins the 100m and 200m sprints again. Other members of the Jamaica team showed that their performances in China was not a fluke as Shelly-Ann Fraser and Melaine Walker added the world championship crown to the Olympic gold medals.

From the turn out it is safe to say that the 57th staging of the annual Denbigh Agri-Industrial Show was a success in 2009. Denbigh 2009 took place from July 31st to August 2rd at the Denbigh show ground in Clarendon under the same theme as last year “Grow What We Eat…Eat What We Grow”. 2009 Festival Song Contest Winner

Winston Hussey is a happy man after winning the 2009 Festival Song Contest with his entry ‘Take Back Jamaica’ and taking home the $1 million dollar cash prize, a cellular phone from Digicel Jamaica Ltd, the Stages Records Trophy and a gift certificate from fashion house, Cooyah.

The competition was organized by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC). The winning entry will be a theme song for the 2009 Independence Celebrations. Entries should invoke a spirit of celebration, have international appeal and be relevant beyond the festive period.

World Championships Team Announced

The Jamaica Athletic Association as announced the members of the Jamaica team that will take part at the World Championships this year. The World Championships in athletics will be held in Berlin, Germany from August 15-23, 2009. The Jamaica Team will be looking to better their performance at the last World Champs 2 years ago in Osaka Japan. The team finished 8th in the medal table with 10 medals which included 1 gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze.

Second Annual Small Business Expo

The second annual staging of the well supported Small Business Expo by the Jamaica Business Development Corporation was held today at the Hilton Ballroom in Kingston. The expo is aimed at micro and small business owners especially entrepreneurs and takes an even more important role in this curent fragile global economic climate.

This year’s expo was held under the theme under the theme “Your Business, Our Business … How can we help you?” and interested personas indending to start a business or improve an existing one had a weath of information and assistance available.

A separate section of the ballroom had a well supported
seminar that went on all day with various presentations

There was a visible increase in the number of booths and the quality of this year’s expo over the one held last year. Companies or organizations with booths included the Technology Inovation Center, Jamaica Wellness Cluster, COK, OBF Finance, NCB, the Tax Administration, the Companies Office of Jamaica, Jamaica Customs Dept and many others.

E10 Gasoline Official Launch Photos

The official launch of E10 gasoline made from a blend of 10 percent ethanol and 90 percent gasoline went well yesterday at the national stadium ring road and car park. Vote for Jamaicans to be 2008 World Athletes of the Year

Voting has opened and and fans of athletics are invited to choose who they think should be the 2008 World Athletes of the Year. After Jamaica’s domination of this year’s track and field season especially at the Olympic Games in China three Jamaicans were nominated to be voted on for the award. They are Usain Bolt for the men and Veronica Campbell and Melaine Walker for the women.

With the help of your votes, which will be added to a poll of IAAF Athletics Family members, a shortlist of 3 finalists will be presented to a Special Jury of the International Athletic Foundation, who will then make a final selection of the World Athlete of the Year and announce the winners, live on stage, at the 2008 IAAF World Athletics Gala in Monaco on the 23rd of November.

Asafa Powell won this award in 2006 for his world record breaking season.

Homecoming celebrations for Jamaica’s Olympians

Sevens days on celebrations to recognize and celebrate the achievements of Jamaica’s Beijing Olympic team to get under way starting on Otober 3rd, 2008 starting with a motorcade through the capital city Kingston. The motorcade will begin at the Harbour View roundabout, will move along Michael Manley Boulevard to Port Royal and Duke streets, Marcus Garvey Drive, up Hagley Park Road, Hope Road, Trafalgar Road, along Knutsford Boulevard onto Oxford Road and Tom Redcam Avenue onto Arthur Wint Drive and conclude at the National Stadium Car Park. The Strawberry Hill Hotel will host a fund-raising dinner dubbed ‘Dining with the Stars Under the Stars’ for the Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association’s Programme of Development for the Track & Field Athletics Team.

On October the 4th the National Awards Ceremony and Sports Gala will be held at the National Stadium beginning at 3:30 pm. Various National and special awards will be conferred on gold medal winners Usain Bolt, Shelly-Ann Fraser, Melaine Walker, Veronica Campbell-Brown, Asafa Powell, Nesta Carter and Michael Frater. This event will be streamed live via the internet. A national thanksgiving service will be heald at Emancipation Park in New Kingston on October 5th.

On October 7th the celebrations head to the western section of the island with motorcade from Montego Bay to Falmouth and then to the sports gala and homecoming celebrations at the Trelawny Multi-Purpose Stadium the following day. The celebrations end on Friday October 9th with a Digicel-sponsored fund raising banquet at Vale Royal with the proceeds of that banquet will going towards Special Olympics Jamaica.

‘YES!’ – Father Richard Ho Lung’s Inspirational Musical

Father Ho lung and Friends presented “Yes!” – a musical journey of faith and love which follows the story of one man’s battle for the soul of Jamaica at the National Arena in Kingston. The inspirational musical showed to sold out audiences over the two days of it’s staging.

Father Richard Ho Lung recently turned 69 years old

Made possible by by the massive support from corporate Jamaica, various dignitaries including politicians, ambassadors and corporate executives could be seen over the two days of the staging of the musical.

Yes! aims to raising funds for the work of the Missionaries of the Poor (MOP), a non-profit religious community of men – who provide care for mentally challenged children, abandoned elderly, disabled women and HIV/AIDS victims who are residents of the MOP’s six facilities for the homeless and destitute. Father Ho Lung and friends’ previous production “Moses” was viewed by over 100,000 Jamaicans and was hailed a a worldclass musical production.

Over 12000 school children from all over the island saw the musical over two days before the show was fully opened to the public.
